Fabrice Muamba has tweeted “Please God” after Christian Eriksen collapsed to the ground in Denmark’s Euro 2020 clash with Finland in Copenhagen.
The Dane seemed to fall without anyone around him and immediately players called for medical help.
Eriksen then received CPR before he was carried off on a stretcher and the game was then postponed, the Dane is now awake and stable.
Eriksen’s wife entered the pitch and was consoled by Kasper Schmeichel, who himself was in tears.
Football has quickly united and sent its prayers to the Inter Milan star and his family.
Muamba was unfortunately involved in a similar incident back in 2012 when he collapsed in a match between Bolton and Tottenham at White Hart Lane.
The then 23-year-old was rushed to the intensive care unit of the heart attack centre at the London Chest Hospital.
Muamba went on to make a full recovery.
He has now issued his support to Eriksen on social media.
Players in the Parken Stadium were visibly upset and those in the BBC studio too were shook.
Micah Richards referenced the recovery made by Muamba and prayed that Eriksen could too.
He said: “One thing you have to have, you have to have hope.
“You’ve seen it with Fabrice Muamba, he pulled through.
“That’s all you can do. We don’t know the news, you can’t make assumptions and all we can do is pray.”
Cesc Fabregas was also in the studio and struggled for words as football was put into context.
“I don’t even know what to say really,” he said.
“My body is shaking. All I can think about is Christian’s family and what they must be going through.
“It’s a very very sad moment and I pray for the very best.”
Alex Scott echoed Fabregas’ sentiment saying: “I can’t believe what we’re witnessing.
“I think football totally goes out of the window right now.
“You’re thinking about his family, all the rest of the players out there witnessing it as well.
“I actually just got on my phone and messaged my mum and told her I love her. I think it’s a reminder of how quickly life can change, just like that.”
UEFA issued a statement saying: “Following the medical emergency for Eriksen, a crisis meeting has taken place with both teams and match officials and further information will be communicated at 19:45 CET. The player has been transferred to the hospital and has been stabilised”.
