Jamie Carragher believes Mohamed Salah will remain at Liverpool after facing a similar fate to Tottenham star Harry Kane.
Salah did not rule out a future move to Barcelona or Real Madrid at the end of last year and speculation over his future has lingered since.
Jurgen Klopp has insisted Salah is a big part of Liverpool’s future but even if he did eye a move, Carragher is not confident in his chances of securing a deal.
Speaking on The Robbie Fowler Podcast, Carragher declared Spain’s two giants would not spend over £100 million ($A180m) on Salah.
“I think he’ll be there (at Liverpool) for the next few years. I think he’s in a similar position to Harry Kane,” said Carragher.
“They’re possibly the two best goal scorers in the Premier League right now.
“They’re at an age where no-one is going to pay big money for them.
“I think they’ve probably missed the boat if they ever did want to go; whether that is to a Real Madrid or a Barcelona. Whether it’s Harry Kane going to Man Utd or Man City.
“For both of those players, I think you’re talking £120m ($A216m) plus, maybe more, and I just don’t think anyone will spend that much on players of that age now.”

Instead, he argued that Barcelona or Real Madrid would find more long-term value in signing either Erling Haaland or Kylian Mbappe, even if it cost more.
“I think they’d look more at paying £200m ($A360m) for Mbappe because of the longevity,” he added.
“It’s maybe the same for Haaland as well, they’d get so much more out of those two.
“I think both of those players have missed the boat basically. Also the situation with Covid and finances; the two Spanish giants have got no more.
“Liverpool wouldn’t let Salah go to anyone else in this country. And would you want to play for PSG instead of Liverpool? I would be very surprised if he did in the French league. I think Salah is here to stay.”
CHELSEA’S $115M CHALLENGE TO MAN UTD
Meanwhile, speaking of Haaland, the Daily Star’s Paul Brown reports that Chelsea are going to do everything they can to snare the Belgium star – even if it means breaking a personal rule.
“Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich is ready to make it his personal mission to sign Erling Haaland this summer,” he writes.
“And that is despite Chelsea once insisting they would never again do business with Haaland’s agent Mino Raiola.”
Chelsea’s issue with Raiola stemmed from the handling of Romelu Lukaku, who joined Manchester United instead of the Blues in 2017 after believing he was heading their way.
Now Chelsea have a chance to steal Haaland away from United, who along with Manchester City and Real Madrid are understood to be in the hunt for the Borussia Dortmund ace.
Haaland has scored 31 goals in 30 games this season and any potential move for him would be dependant on Chelsea finishing in the top four as he is eyeing a move to a Champions League team.
Haaland has a release clause in his contract worth around £64m ($A115m) and it can be triggered in the summer of 2022.
