Anthony Martial was so desperate to leave Manchester United he took a pay cut to push through his loan move to Sevilla.

Martial was in Spain last night to complete his switch to Sevilla until the end of the season – after subsidising part of his wages himself to make the deal happen.

Sevilla were unwilling to pay United striker Martial’s £200,000-a-week wages in full, which threatened to scupper the entire deal and leave the striker in limbo at Old Trafford.

But such was Martial’s desire to leave United for a fresh challenge, he was willing to sacrifice a significant chunk of his wages – believed to be around £50,000-a-week – to ensure the deal went ahead.

After reaching an agreement with United on Martial’s wages, the striker flew to Seville to undergo a medical and complete the deal.

Martial, signed for £36million from Monaco in 2015, had fallen out of favour at United and was embroiled in a public row with interim boss Ralf Rangnick 11 days ago.

Rangnick claimed Martial had refused to travel with United to Aston Villa on January 15, a charge vehemently denied by the striker, who took to Instagram to protest his innocence.

Martial returned to the United squad and played a part in the build-up for Marcus Rashford’s 93rd-minute winner in last Saturday’s 1-0 win over West Ham.

But the 26-year-old still wanted to leave United and has been granted his wish with the move to Sevilla, who have paid no loan fee and who do not have an option to buy him this summer.
