MARCA 100: The best XI of the season: Four from Real Madrid and three from Liverpool

With 71 members on the jury, the votes are finally in as to who features in MARCA’s 100 best XI of the season.

The team, which lines up in a 4-3-3 formation since it’s the one most used by teams participating in the five major European leagues, features a lot of Real Madrid and Liverpool.

Given the two teams battled it out in the Champions League final, it’s no surprise seven of the 11 players come from the two clubs.

The best XI is: Courtois; Alexander-Arnold, Van Dijk, Alaba, Cancelo; Rodri, De Bruyne, Modric; Salah, Vinicius and Benzema.

In goal, there is no surprise Courtois is there given he finished runner-up in MARCA’s #Los100.

In defence, there are two Liverpool players (Alexander-Arnold and Van Dijk), one from Real Madrid (Alaba) and one from Manchester City (Cancelo).

The Austrian made the team after finishing ahead of Eder Militao in the #Los100 rankings.

In midfield, Luka Modric pulls the strings alongside two of Pep Guardiola’s men.

Federico Valverde gave Rodri a run for his money, but the Spanish international came out on top due to his better ranking (20 v 24)

Up top, there is no doubt over the inclusion of Benzema and Vinicius, with Salah rounding out the three.

Although Kylian Mbappe got more votes than the Liverpool star, PSG’s elimination in the round of 16 held him back.
