The pictures of Gerard Pique complaining to referee Jesus Gil Manzano after Saturday’s Barcelona‘s Clasico loss to Real Madrid were seen by everyone watching the game or following on social media.
The Catalan was furious with some of the decisions that he felt should have gone Barcelona‘s way, with Barcelona delegate Carles Naval doing his utmost to calm the defender down and lead him away from Gil Manzano.
Pique‘s main complaint was around the decision not to award a penalty when Martin Braithwaite went down after a slight tug on his arm from Ferland Mendy. He was also unhappy with the amount of time that was added on at the end of the 90 minutes.
Sergio Ramos and his Real Madrid teammates were surprised by the extent of Barcelona‘s anger, particularly as it continued into the tunnel and around the dressing room area.
Eyewitnesses spoke of “very bad manners” from some Barcelona players towards the referee.
