BREAKING NEWS: Preston SACK manager Alex Neil after defeat by Luton leaves them languishing in 16th in the Championship table

  • Preston have endured a miserable run winning just one of their last nine games
  • The Championship club have won just three of their 17 matches in 2021
  • A club statement confirmed Frankie McAvoy will take interim charge of Preston

Preston have parted company with boss Alex Neil after a dismal run of just one win in nine games saw them slide down the table.

North End had a turbulent winter window in which they lost three of their star players and made nine signings – six of which were loans. Neil is understood to have felt disgruntled at the mass changes in January and subsequent performances were poor, with Preston winning just three of 17 matches in 2021.

‘He leaves us with our thanks and very best wishes for the future,’ read a club statement, which also confirmed Frankie McAvoy will take interim charge.

Neil admitted after the match: ‘I’ll have a tough few days now just processing where we are and what we need to do.

‘I’m literally going to go home, probably crawl under my bed for a few days, hope nobody sees me and then hope the world is a better place in a couple of days’ time.’
