Real Madrid: Dalic: Rest Modric? He’ll play against Malta if we need him

Zlatko Dalic has dismissed reports that suggested that Luka Modric would be given a rest for Croatia’s World Cup qualifier against Malta on Tuesday.

The 35-year-old has played the full 90 minutes in each of Croatia’s opening two qualifiers this month, so was expected to be spared the meeting with minnows Malta.

“I know Modric has to play in LaLiga this Saturday, but our match against Malta is what concerns me [right now],” Dalic insisted.

“If we need him, Luka will definitely play tomorrow.

“The most important thing for me is the national team.”

During the March international break, Modric overtook Dario Srna to become the most capped player in Croatia’s history with 135 appearances.

At club level, only Thibaut Courtois and Raphael Varane have played more matches than the midfielder for Real Madrid this season.

Zinedine Zidane‘s side will host Eibar at the Estadio Alfredo Di Stefano on Saturday afternoon.
