Ian Wright names “easily” Man Utd’s best player in win over Brighton

Ian Wright claims Luke Shaw was “easily” Manchester United’s star performer as they battled back to beat Brighton.

The left-back has been a stand out for the Red Devils this season and has won several club Player of the Month awards.

Shaw was again instrumental as United picked up three points which helps consolidate their second place.

United continued their slow starts as Danny Welbeck putting the Seagulls head in the first-half.

But Mason Greenwood grabbed a late winner with Wright praising the role of substitute Donny van de Beek in the goal.

” Manchester United started very slowly again,” he said on Match of the Day. “I thought Brighton were very good for their lead.

“But in the end the quality came through. This is brilliant from Donny van de Beek [in the build-up to United’s winner] and this is what he’s about.

“He’s come from a possession-based academy, that’s what he does. He makes movement. It’s great movement and leaves the space open to Bruno Fernandes.

“It’s a great ball too from Luke Shaw who, for me, was easily the Man of the Match for Manchester United. So in the end, United’s quality came through.”

Greenwood’s strike, just his second league goal of the season, was a welcome boost for United.

Anthony Martial will now miss the remainder of the season meaning the teenager will need to step up.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, who was regularly backed his young striker, insists he will not only judge Greenwood on how many times he hits the back of the net.

“When he gets those goals, we know he’s going to add another dimension to his game,” he said. “The world nowadays is so on to stats and this and that.”

“The boy has played fantastically [during] the last two or three months and has really come on. If he keeps learning and improving he will score more – he’s a lethal finisher.”
