EURO 2020

Jadon Sancho laughs at Jordan Henderson as he discusses his England goal record

Jadon Sancho couldn’t help but laugh as Jordan Henderson admitted his first goal for England has been a “long time coming”.

The Liverpool captain came off the bench to score England’s final goal of the night on Saturday as Gareth Southgate’s Three Lions ran riot in a 4-0 win over Ukraine in the quarter-final of Euro 2020.

Henderson looked delighted as he headed past Heorhiy Bushchan to put the result beyond any doubt half an hour before the end.

“A very good night,” said Henderson after the match. “So pleased for the performance level and a great start in the early goal and we kicked on from there. We defended well as a team, scored great goals, created great chances.

“We have to be pleased with the overall performance. We have a big game Wednesday, we need to recover well and give everything on Wednesday.

“It’s been a long time coming. I felt one was coming. I thankfully managed to get on the scoresheet. I’m delighted for the lads, the effort tonight was fantastic and will give us good momentum going into the next game. I tried to counter the best I can.

“On the pitch, I don’t need to score more goals, there are other players to do that. I need to concentrate on my job. I would like to have scored more goals over the last few years. I managed to get one today which is always nice.”

In a short video posted to Twitter by England, the squad are seen making their way back to the team coach after the fixture.

Henderson is asked: “Worth the wait, eh?” to which he responds: “It’s been a long time coming, hasn’t it? About time.”

He then begins laughing, but his chuckle is drowned out by Sancho, who can also be heard giggling.

Turning around to look at his England teammate, Henderson responds: “What are you laughing at?!” to which Sancho replies: “I’m only joking!”

Sancho started his first game for England against Ukraine on Saturday, just days after agreeing on a £72.9million transfer to Manchester United.
