Inter vs Real Madrid | Champions League: Real Madrid, the White Beast of Italy

Despite Serie A boasting some of European football’s most storied and successful sides, Real Madrid have nothing to fear when they make the journey to Italy as they have won 13 out of 14 Champions League games when against Italian sides.

It’s a streak which has gained momentum lately, with the Spanish side winning their seven most recent fixtures against Italian teams. Even better is the aggregate scoreline of 15-3 in favour of Los Blancos.

Italy is no longer somewhere that Real Madrid need to be worried about, as they have scored at least one goal in their last 14 Champions League games in the country – 24 goals in total – which is their best every streak in the competition.

Real Madrid have only been on the end of one defeat during that time, and even so it had a sweet ending, as it was the semi-final second leg against Juventus in April 2018. Thankfully for Los Blancos, Zinedine Zidane‘s men has won 3-0 in Turin, a game which included Cristiano Ronaldo‘s famous overhead kick.

In the return leg, Juventus managed to level the tie, and just as it looked like extra-time and penalties were on the way, Mehdi Benatia fouled Lucas Vazquez in the box. That meant Cristiano stepped up to the spot and sent Real Madrid into the 2018 Champions League final.

History with Inter

Inter don’t have a particularly good record of late against Real Madrid. The Nerazzurri have lost five of their last six games against Los Blancos in European competition. In contrast, their first 12 games against Real Madrid were a lot better, as they won six time and managed two draws with four defeats.
