The ex- Liverpool striker reckons the Blues will ultimately run out 3-1 winners after last beating United in league play over four years ago.

Both sides earned midweek victories in the Champions League which will have boosted confidence in each camp.

However, Owen says Thomas Tuchel ‘s men will be “too strong” for the visitors.

“Michael Carrick got the desired reaction from his players midweek, although this is a bigger test,” the player-turned-pundit told BetVictor .

“Chelsea were awesome against Juventus. They’re defensively rock solid, something that you must be if you have aspirations of winning the title.

“I think Carrick will play the likes of Donny van de Beek and Jadon Sancho again here, but Chelsea, for me, are just too strong.

“I’m siding with the Blues to take all three points.”

Chelsea’s “awesome” 4-0 win at home to Juventus followed United’s 2-0 away victory over Villarreal.

The match was Carrick’s first as caretaker manager after Ole Gunnar Solskjaer ‘s sacking last Sunday and the temporary boss is hoping the Red Devils can continue in the same vein.

“Tuesday was a huge game, but it’s another massive game,” Carrick stated in his pre-match press conference.

“These are the games you’ve got to enjoy, embrace putting yourself in these positions and test yourself against a team that’s playing very well, very well.

“Whatever individuals are on the pitch for them, in recent times, they’ve looked dangerous, they’ve looked a good team and obviously had some really terrific results.

“So it’ll be a test for us and I’m looking forward to it.”

“I don’t know if it’s ever a good time to play against teams because that would mean we know something or predict something.

“We will not lose too many minutes thinking about this and put all our energy and focus into our team.

We are up for the big challenges and we want to be out there playing at the highest level. We want to prove a point.
