Rio Ferdinand jokes about Jadon Sancho’s “imminent” Man Utd transfer

Pundit and former Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand is keen for Jadon Sancho to sign for the club – so much so he’s said he’ll help get the deal done.

United have wanted to sign Sancho since last year, with their closest attempt coming in the January window, but they couldn’t get the deal over the line after not agreeing a fee with Borussia Dortmund.

Now with the summer transfer window opening up, it is said the signing is even closer to happening but nothing has yet been confirmed.

Ferdinand spoke about the deal when a fan asked him if he thinks it will be announced “imminently”.

He responded: “Yes… just driving to Manchester now to get it done! Come on @Sanchooo10.”

It is believed Sancho himself is happy for the deal to go ahead, but it is agreeing a fee that is slowing the signing once again.

For the moment, Sancho will be concentrating on the job at hand as he was selected in Gareth Southgate’s 26-man squad for the Euros.

So far he has been involved in England’s friendly against Romania, which they won 1-0, but he wasn’t included in the matchday 23 for their opener against Croatia.

The match on Sunday ended 1-0 with a Raheem Sterling goal being the difference between the sides.

The win is the first time England have opened the Euros with a victory.

Will Sancho sign for Man United? Comment below

While teams were allowed to select 26 men for their squads, only 23 are allowed to be involved on game day.

Alongside Sancho missing out was Ben Chilwell and injured defender Harry Maguire.

Southgate told the BBC on the selection: “With the two boys that are out of the squad, it’s just unfortunate we can only name 23 and we’ve had to cover certain positions.

“I don’t like the fact we’re having to leave players out of the squad in a major tournament.”

And he added about his side’s performance: “The players dealt with the big occasion really well right from the start.

“They played really well, they settled early in the game. There were moments when the tempo dropped just because of the heat.

“But for the majority of the game, we were in control, we didn’t give them many opportunities and we looked dangerous.

“Kalvin (Phillips) is player who is so understated and has had a fabulous start to his international career. I thought he was immense throughout, as they all were.

“I’m so pleased for Raheem (Sterling). He’s had this hex in tournaments, not being able to get the goal. I thought he was dangerous all day, right from the start.

“He’s a good player and his goal scoring record suggests that we should have faith with him, especially in the last few years. I think he was motivated to show that.

“For him and everybody, we know we’re going to need that depth with the attacking players. We’ll need them through the tournament.”

Sancho’s next chance to play for England comes on June 18 when they face the old enemy Scotland at Wembley.
