Manchester United have agreed a transfer with Raphael Varane subject to a medical.
The Red Devils will pay around £40million for the Real Madrid centre-back, who is set to sign a long-term contract with the Old Trafford club, worth £250,000-a-week.
Manchester United have been in hot pursuit of the Real Madrid centre-back all summer but prioritised signing Jadon Sancho from Borussia Dortmund for £73million.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s Red Devils confirmed on Tuesday night they have reached an agreement with Varane.
A posted on the club’s official website read: “Manchester United is delighted to announce the club has reached agreement with Real Madrid for the transfer of French international defender and World Cup winner, Raphael Varane, subject to a medical and to player terms being finalised.”
Manchester United swooped for Varane after contract extension talks between the defender and Real Madrid came to a standstill.
Varane is out of contract at Real Madrid next summer meaning he could leave for free.
Los Blancos are keen to receive a transfer fee for the centre-back, which prompted them to sanction the sale.
