Benzema is ahead of Haaland and Lewandowski

The domestic campaign has only just started in Europe, yet some of the top forwards on the continent are already firing.

Only five games have been played to date in Europe’s top five leagues, except for France’s Ligue 1, where they have played six, but some impressive numbers are already being racked up.

We take a look at the five forwards who have started the 2021/22 season the strongest in terms of goals and assists.

1. Karim Benzema (11)

At 33 years old, the Frenchman is well and truly Real Madrid’s talisman and his understanding with young Vinicius has led to a lethal partnership, as the 2-1 win over Valencia proved.

Benzema is top of the rankings with six goals and five assists in just five matches.

2. Erling Haaland (10)

The Norwegian has started the season as he ended the last one, by scoring goals for fun. He has seven goals to his name in five games, a goal every 64 minutes, and has also made three assists.

3. Robert Lewandowski (7)

The Bayern Munich hitman has the same number of goals as Haaland (7) yet he has not yet registered an assist. The Polish striker last season scored 41 goals in 34 league games and appears intent on reaching a similar tally this campaign too.

4. Michail Antonio (7)

The only Premier League player in the top five for goals and assists is Michail Antonio. He has scored four goals in four games in the Premier League and has laid on three assists for West Ham.

5. Kylian Mbappe (7)

Despite the rumours of him moving to Real Madrid, Mbappe has not let it affect him, starting the season well for PSG. The Frenchman has four goals and three assists to his name in six Ligue 1 games. His latest contribution was his injury time assist to Mauro Icardi in the 2-1 win over Lyon on Sunday.
