Erik ten Hag has hinted that an Ajax reunion with two of his former players could be off.

The Dutchman has now reported for duty at Old Trafford and is set to succeed Ralf Rangnick in the hotseat following the final Premier League game against Crystal Palace on Sunday. Ten Hag is set to begin a huge overhaul of his playing squad with plenty of transfer activity expected at the club this summer.

But the new United boss has hinted that Ajax duo Antony and Jurrien Timber may not be following him from Holland to the Premier League club. It comes as Frenkie de Jong has pledged his future to Barcelona after being linked with a move to United.

And Erik ten Hag has sent a warning to United’s former players over criticism they may send towards the club through the media.

Ajax reunion off

Erik ten Hag’s former Ajax players Antony and Jurrien Timber may not be joining him at Manchester United, the club’s new manager has suggested.

The club’s board are ready to back their new boss in the transfer market this summer, with plenty of new arrivals expected to come in following Ten Hag’s arrival on Monday. And the Dutchman has hinted the club may face strong competition from “all the top clubs in Europe” for Timber.

And he has also hinted he may not move for Antony as it would “be a loss” for his former side.

De Jong snubs move

Another former player who Erik ten Hag managed at Ajax may also be set to turn the club down, with Frenkie de Jong pledging his future to his current club Barcelona.

Midfield is seen as a key area of improvement for United this summer and Ten Hag is reportedly keen to bring his former player in to help solve the club’s problems in the middle of the park. But reports have suggested the player has told Barcelona of his desire to stay at the Camp Nou beyond the summer.

The news will come as a bitter blow for Ten Hag as he sets about reshaping his squad this summer.

New Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag has warned the club’s legendary former players that he will not be fazed by their public criticism next season.

The Old Trafford club have struggled this season, with their problems on the pitch often on the receiving end of criticism from United legends who have now become pundits such as Gary Neville, Rio Ferdinand and Paul Scholes. Ten Hag has now responded to questions about the impact these sort of comments have behind the scenes, and he’s insisted it “should never have an influence in the dressing room”.

And the new United chief also says he’s “been getting more and more baggage on how to deal with certain forces”.
