Pedri has had an incredible year, becoming a starter for Barcelona and for Luis Enrique’s Spain side. He is also set to go to the Olympic Games after Euro 2020, something which not all at Barcelona are happy about.
Discussing the fact he’ll have to play even more minutes in Japan, after a long club season and after a deep run in Euro 2020, Pedri isn’t concerned and promised that he’d be ready to go for next season too.
“Luis de la Fuente spoke to me before announcing the list for the Olympic Games,” he revealed during an appearance on Onda Cero’s ‘El Transistor’.
“I just love to play football and I’ll be happy to keep playing.
“I do, though, understand Barcelona‘s point of view because I have played many matches. But, I want to tell Barcelona that I’ll arrive well-rested.”
Going on to discuss his standing in the Barcelona squad, he said that he is happy with how things are going at the Camp Nou and also that he hopes Lionel Messi renews.
“I feel valued and appreciated at Barcelona and I hope to be at the club for a long time,” Pedri said.
“I hope Messi renews his contract and I’d like to have him as a teammate for another season. I hope he stays, but it’s his decision.”
Finally, he also reflected on how Euro 2020 is going for the Spanish national team.
“We have a magnificent national team and we’ve never had any doubts,” he stated.
“From the start, we didn’t doubt our potential.
“If I hadn’t been taken off [against Switzerland] then I would have raised my hand to take a penalty. I wouldn’t mind which. I’d take whatever one nobody else wanted.
“I revived a call from Ronald Koeman, to congratulate me for reaching the quarter-finals and then semi-finals.”
