Barcelona: Messi opens the door to possible Neymar return to Barcelona

With Leo Messi no longer an option, Barcelona could explore the one that leads to another old acquaintance – Neymar.

Now that Messi is off to Inter Miami in MLS, the Catalan club are already working on the idea of recruiting another key player.

“Xavi had spoken to Leo and believed he would be an important part of the team’s attacking play. Now it’s clear that he will be looking for a player with a difference up front to help Dembele, Raphinha and Lewandowski. And who can score goals,” sources close to the club say.

And although it sounds incredible, the chosen one could be Neymar. In fact, the Brazilian has already given his approval to the possibility of returning to a club where he performed well between 2013 and 2017 (105 goals and 76 assists in 186 official matches), but which he ended up leaving through the back door to join Paris Saint-Germain.

Although having the player’s OK always helps, his return looks complicated. PSG seem determined to sell him, but under no circumstances will they give him as a gift, especially not to Barcelona, with whom they have a rather strained relationship. That’s why, for this negotiation to have any chance of success, it is essential that Barcelona improve their financial situation as soon as possible and reduce their wage bill.

Xavi’s preferences

Xavi’s priority is to sign a second striker, a midfielder to replace Busquets and also a wide player because he does not have full faith in Ferran Torres and Ansu Fati. Neymar’s time in the French capital is running out. Most likely, the Brazilian is close to the end of his time at PSG after the protests of the Parisian fans against him. This is also because the situation has taken a 180-degree turn, between the player himself wanting a change of scenery and four of the clubs he would be willing to go to being interested in him.

Premier League?

According to Le Parisien, what has convinced Neymar to step aside and try to sign for another club is the interest from Premier League clubs such as Manchester United, Chelsea and Newcastle. Each club has a different situation that the Brazilian will have to weigh up, both Manchester United and Newcastle have a Champions League place next season while Chelsea will not be playing in European competition
