Barcelona: LA Galaxy coach Greg Vanney confident that Julian Araujo move to Barcelona will be completed

Los Angeles Galaxy and right-back Julian Araujo are still awaiting FIFA’s decision to make the player’s move to Barcelona official.

The LaLiga Santander giants have signed Araujo on a one-year loan deal that includes a buyout option set at six million dollars, but Barcelona didn’t manage to submit all paperwork in time, missing the deadline by just seconds.

“First of all, it is clear that he is a player for Barca Atletic,” Barcelona‘s Director of Football, Mateu Alemany, said.

“It is true that it could not be completed because of a system error. [He wasn’t registered] for 18 seconds. We will see what FIFA says”.

Meanwhile, LA Galaxy coach Greg Vanney appears to be confident that FIFA will give the green light for the 21-year-old’s move to Catalonia.

“The only update that I have is it is in FIFA’s hands to review the process that was underway or completed or however they’re going to determine that,” Vanney said on Thursday.

“They’ll give their ruling once they go through that process, so we’re all kind of in a wait-and-see.

“I think this is the second window that we’ve had some interaction with them about Julian. Pretty late in the window, did the discussion about what a deal would actually look like start to get really clearer and negotiated.

“It was over the last 3-4 days where those discussions started to pick up and get momentum. Things started to happen fast, hence the reason it came down to the wire. He’s clearly someone they’ve had on their radar because in previous windows they’ve poked around and asked about him.”
