Barcelona: Official: Messi signs for Paris Saint-Germain

Actualizado

Paris Saint-Germain have announced the signing of Leo Messi on a free transfer, just two days after the Argentine confirmed that he would be leaving Barcelona.

Messi has signed for the Ligue 1 club on a two-year deal with the option of a third.

PSG are intent on landing the Champions League, and have demonstrated their intent on finally doing so by by landing the six time Ballon d’Or winner, capitalising on the financial problems of one of their direct rivals in European competition.

The Parisians had already signed Sergio Ramos, Gianluigi Donnarumma, Achraf Hakimi and Georginio Wijnaldum this summer, and the arrival of Messi now sees them boast arguably the strongest squad on the continent.

Messi will be reunited with former Barcelona teammate Neymar who, together with Kylian Mbappe, will make up a fearsome front three.

Financial Fair Play concerns

The arrival of Messi, together with a host of other big names at PSG this summer, has raised suspicion among various sections of European football, who find it hard to understand how it is possible for the Ligue 1 club to have put together such a team without breaking Financial Fair Play rules.

Europe’s top clubs are expecting an explanation about it from UEFA, although the PSG are confident that no such rules have been breached.
