The two players, who have faced off in the Premier League before, went toe to toe both on and off the pitch as Marseille and Galatasaray met in the Europa League

Patrick van Aanholt and Matteo Guendouzi are no strangers to one another, having faced off in the Premier League when the Dutchman was at Crystal Palace and the French midfielder was part of Arsenal’s first team.
The pair have since moved on, with Van Aanholt joining Galatasaray and Guendouzi moving on loan to Marseille, but the pair have been opponents in the Europa League this season.
Guendouzi incurred the wrath of his opponent when the sides met in the group stage in France, and it appears the war of words has not gone cold.
Indeed, after the Turkish team beat Marseille 4-2 to seal their place in the knockout stages, Van Aanholt reminded his rival of their tete-a-tete.

Back in September, Marseille and Galatasaray played out a goalless draw at Stade Velodrome, with Guendouzi feeling he should have had a penalty for what he perceived as a Van Aanholt foul.
“It’s annoying to take 10 minutes just to check a penalty where there is really a penalty, and not give anything afterwards,” Guendouzi said at the time, as translated by Sport Witness.
Van Aanholt hit back at the time and had another dig at the Marseille man after goals from Alexandru Cicaldau, Sofiane Feghouli, Ryan Babel and a Duje Caleta-Car own goal sent Galatasaray through at the Ligue 1 club’s expense.
“Running your mouth after VAR proved you wrong… likkleman needs to relax before I snatch that wig off your head. Well done to my lions for a well-earned point on the road,” Van Aanholt tweeted after the group game in France, and he made a callback to that comment after the victory in Istanbul.
“I said what I said… LIKKLEMAN! WICKED & BAD. THIS IS OUR HOUSE,’ the former Chelsea man said.
Guendouzi and Van Aanholt started London derbies on opposing sides on two occasions, with both games ending all square between Palace and Arsenal.
The first of the two came early in Unai Emery’s tenure as Arsenal boss, with two Luka Milivojevic penalties helping Palace earn a 2-2 draw at Selhurst Park.
The second meeting also ended two apiece and is best remembered for Granit Xhaka confronting his own fans after Arsenal surrendered a two-goal lead.
The victory for Galatasaray means they are assured of a place in the next round of the competition at a minimum and can guarantee a bye to the last 16 if they avoid defeat against Lazio next month.
Marseille, who drew their first four group games before travelling to Turkey, will drop down into the Europa Conference League unless they lose their final group game at home to Lokomotiv Moscow.
