Ex-Arsenal and Chelsea star Cesc Fabregas opens up on his plans to move into management

Cesc Fabregas is weighing up a “crazy” move into management as he begins to think about life after playing.

Fabregas, 34, has one year remaining on his contract with Monaco as his glittering career gradually winds down.

Although the Champions League has evaded him, the midfielder won countless major honours for Spain and at club level with Arsenal, Barcelona and Chelsea.

Fabregas is showing little sign of letting up just yet, either, and scored or assisted nine times in 29 appearances for Monaco last season.

It remains to be seen what the future holds in store for the seasoned veteran, but he insists he will be found in the dugout one day.

“It’s something that’s been inside me for a long time, it’s something I’d like to try,” Fabregas told talkSPORT of becoming a manager.

“People tell me I’m crazy because after a long career and so much pressure, going into management is maybe even more pressure!

“It’s something that I like, I want to give it a go. I’m learning, studying, listening from a lot of different people and in football you always keep learning every day so I’m happy about this.”

Although Fabregas harbours ambitions of leading his own team, there may yet be more to come from him as a player.

That’s because Spanish journalist Guillem Balague claims he has an agreement to move to the MLS alongside Argentine superstar and former Barcelona teammate Lionel Messi.

“At some point, I am sure people will try to convince them to come to the MLS,” Balague told CBS Sports . “And – I can’t remember if I told you this story already – basically Cesc Fabregas wants to go to the MLS.

Will Cesc Fabregas make a good manager when he decides to hang up his boots? Comment below.

“Cesc Fabregas’ wife and Messi’s wife are very good friends and they both, the wives, have convinced Cesc and Messi to go to America together.

“So when that will happen, we don’t know yet, because of course Cesc is still at Monaco. But it is something that is in the back of the minds of both players.”

Meanwhile, fans may already wonder what sort of manager Fabregas will one day become, but the player himself hinted at that as he named the former boss he had the “best connection” with last year.

“I played under some of the best managers – not just in recent times but in history,” Fabregas told BBC Sports . “If I have to pick one or two: Pep Guardiola played the game in the style I love at Barcelona, same with Arsene Wenger at Arsenal.

“But under Jose Mourinho at Chelsea, I had a really special year. He is probably the one I had the best connection with. The way he played with my mind was unbelievable.

“I would pick Guardiola, Mourinho and Wenger because I owe them all so much.”
