Chelsea transfer round-up: Arsenal set to deal blow in race to sign Jules Kounde

After an excellent first six months under the management of Thomas Tuchel, in which they won the Champions League, Chelsea will now look to boost their squad.

The Blues hope to challenge Manchester City for the Premier League title, having seen Tuchel defeat Pep Guardiola’s men in all three meetings between the sides since he moved to England.

But reinforcements will be needed in the upcoming transfer window if those dreams are to be realised next season.

A new attacker, midfielder and defender are all expected to arrive, as Tuchel looks to overhaul his squad.

One of Chelsea’s top priorities for the summer transfer window is a new defender, with Thomas Tuchel looking to boost his options at the back.

Thiago Silva signed a new contract on Friday, but more high-quality options are still required by Tuchel if he is to mount a Premier League title challenge next season.

One man who has been linked with a move to Stamford Bridge is Sevilla centre-back Jules Kounde, who appears set to depart the La Liga club this summer.

But now Marca report that it is Arsenal who are expected to lodge the first bid with Julen Lopetegui’s side.

It is stated though that the Blues could still hold the advantage in the race to sign Kounde as they are able to offer Champions League football next season.

Another area that Chelsea will seek to upgrade is in midfield, with stronger competition required for N’Golo Kante, Jorginho and Mateo Kovacic.

Tuchel had reportedly found his man to solve that particular problem in Barcelona midfielder Miralem Pjanic.

The Bosnian international had been heavily linked with a move to Chelsea in the summer, following a difficult debut season in Spain.

Pjanic was either left on the bench or limited to substitute appearances under Ronald Koeman as Barca endured a disappointing campaign.

Despite that though, Sport report that Pjanic is not interested in moving to Stamford Bridge when the window opens.

Instead, he has his eyes set on a return to Juventus where he enjoyed a successful four year spell, winning Serie A all of the seasons he spent in Turin.

With a move for Pjanic now looking unlikely, Chelsea will be forced to explore other options to boost their midfield.

One potential target is Atletico Madrid man Saul Niguez, who looks set to depart the La Liga champions this summer.

Transfer insider Fabrizio Romano reports that the Blues are being kept informed of his situation, with Bayern Munich also interested in a move, though neither side have yet lodged a bid.
