It will be an eerie occasion at Stamford Bridge on Sunday.

Chelsea will play in front of their own supporters for the first time since the Government sanctioned their owner Roman Abramovich due to links to Russian president Vladimir Putin.

The match-going experience will be different for supporters in attendance, while on the pitch the players will need to put off-field distractions behind them against an in-form Newcastle United outfit.

While any realistic hope of winning the title has gone for Chelsea, with Arsenal gathering momentum behind them they will be keen to cement third spot.

Lukaku furious at exit reports

Romelu Lukaku’s return to Chelsea has not been plain sailing.

Speculation surrounding his future has simmered all season and according to reports the Belgium international is furious about the latest raft of rumours that say he wants out.

It was claimed in the Italian press that the striker was ready to take a pay cut in order to facilitate a return to his former club Inter Milan, although according to the Daily Telegraph that is not the case, with Lukaku keen on unity in what are tough times for the Blues.

Lukaku has spoken candidly about his position at Chelsea already this season and has not been a regular starter for manager Thomas Tuchel since.

It was confirmed they have disqualified the Russian’s right to be a director at Chelsea.

“The Board’s decision does not impact on the club’s ability to train and play its fixtures, as set out under the terms of a licence issued by the Government which expires on 31 May 2022,” read a section of the Premier League’s statement.

Chelsea are looking for a buyer, although a sale can only go through if Abramovich does not benefit financially.

Chelsea license amendment

The sanctions from the Government have not prevented Chelsea from operating as a business, although there are stipulations they need to adhere to.

The Blues were initially told they would be limited to a £500,000 spend on matchdays. That sum would include security and stewarding in addition to other paid-for services on the day of the game.

However, that limit has been lifted to £900,000, putting the budget closer to the £1 million the club would usually spend on matchdays.

Chelsea will also now be able to receive prize money for any success, although they will not have access to it while in its current ownership state.
