Mikel Arteta’s side finished the calendar year with a fifth win on the spin, casting aside Norwich City in their last outing.

The Gunners couldn’t have asked for a tougher opening to the New Year, with a visit from the red-hot champions Manchester City.

But there is certainly more positivity around the Emirates than there was when they last met in August.

January could also prove to be a crucial month off-the-field for Arteta’s side.

There is plenty of uncertainty around the future of former skipper Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. He is heading to the Africa Cup of Nations and has been linked with a January departure.

But what about potential incomings?

Here, Mirror Football takes a look at the latest Arsenal transfer rumours.

‘Dream’ Lamptey interests Gunners

Tariq Lamptey cost Brighton just £3m, when he joined from Chelsea in 2019

Arsenal are considering a second swoop on Brighton in as many transfer windows.

Last summer saw the Gunners sign defender Ben White from Albion for a fee of £50million.

Now, they could be about to pounce for right-back Tariq Lamptey – who is said to be available, provided the price is right.

According to transfer guru Duncan Castles, the Gunners are actively exploring a deal for Lamptey.

They have retained interest in the 21-year-old for a while now and it is understood Brighton are happy to sell as long an acceptable financial deal is presented to them.

Lamptey could follow a similar path to Ben White, who left Brighton for Arsenal last summer

Lamptey, who is under contract until 2025, joined Brighton from Chelsea for a cut-price £3m in 2019.

The youngster has overcome a long-term injury and his manager Graham Potter is clearly happy with the player’s form.

“He’s still growing and growing and developing as a player and we’re delighted with him,” Potter said.

“Since he’s been here, he’s been great, everybody loves him here at the club. He’s a great guy, a great lad, does his best, he’s a bit of a dream really as a player.”

Arsenal move ahead of Spurs

Juventus’ Dejan Kulusevski is attracting interest from Arsenal

Arsenal are reportedly ahead of bitter rivals Tottenham in the chase for Juventus winger Dejan Kulusevski.

Reports in Italy suggest Juventus are open to his sale. They have reportedly flirted with the idea of using him as part of a deal for Dusan Vlahovic, but Fiorentina are not said to be interested.

Now, Corriere Torino say that Arsenal are stepping up their efforts to bring Kulusevski to the Emirates.

Another Italian publication Calciomercato say that the Gunners are ‘overtaking’ arch-rivals Tottenham in the race for the Sweden international.

He’s expected to leave in the January transfer window but Juventus are said to be ‘waiting’ for an acceptable offer.

It is thought the Italian giants rate him at €35m.

Strike duo firmly on shortlist

Real Sociedad’s Alexander Isak

The Athletic say that two strikers are gaining the attention of Arsenal as we approach the re-opening of the transfer window.

Alexander Isak and Jonathan David have “been of long-standing interest” to the Gunners, according to the reports.

Despite firm interest, they say that neither is unlikely to be allowed or interested in a mid-season switch.

Sweden international Isak recently penned a long-term deal with his club Real Sociedad whilst David’s club Lille are through to the last-16 of the Champions League where they were drawn against Chelsea.

With that in mind, it may be the summer window when Mikel Arteta fixes his gaze on those two.
