“Never been in love with Origi but he is a wonderful player”

Former AC Milan defender Billy Costacurta has said that he has never been in love with Divock Origi but still thinks he is a wonderful player.

Speaking to TMW whilst at a charity event, Costacurta was asked about the Rossoneri’s transfer market situation at the moment.

Whilst the move has not been officially announced yet, it is known that Liverpool forward Origi will be joining Milan next season on a free transfer.

Costacurta has suggested that he does not think it is a season-defining transfer for Milan but he does still rate the player very highly.

“I have never been in love with him, but he is a wonderful player. Like Giroud, he can help out. They are not extraordinary footballers, but to have players like that, like last year’s Giroud, is important,” Costacurta said.

The depth in attack will be very welcome for Stefano Pioli as Zlatan Ibrahimovic will miss a large chunk of the season as he is undergoing knee surgery again.

Another player that could be playing for Milan next season is Real Madrid midfielder Marco Asensio. Costacurta thinks he is a good player but just one of many names being linked with the club.

“He’s a very good footballer, he has so much quality. But we’re here naming so many names when there are so many that could do the trick,” he said.
