Gerry Cardinale’s visit to AC Milan suggests that the club are very serious about accelerating the new stadium project, but there are some obstacles to overcome.
As reported by La Repubblica (via MilanNews) this morning, Milan have decided to go all-in on the La Maura area, leaving behind the project shared with Inter at the San Siro which – after almost four years of work and bureaucracy – is evidently not bearing fruit.
Mayor Beppe Sala declared that in the meeting he had with the Rossoneri top management, six or seven hypotheses were brought to him which have yet to materialize into a real project. Cardinale will return to the Mayor with a more detailed plan in a couple of weeks.
There have been questions and doubts raised by many of the members of the majority of the City Council, who were slammed by Sala himself who declared: “The attitude of a part of the Democratic Party is wrong, which, having not yet seen the project says it’s no good.”
The obstacles will not only from the majority party but also from other fringes of the Council: members of the Green party, Forza Italia and even the Lega have expressed their perplexities.
The issue of concern is undoubtedly the environmental one, but rumours report that the plant will not occupy more than 15% of the 75-hectare site. In this way the amount of protected greenery in the area will be very large.
