Lombardy president brands Milan’s stadium project as ‘good’ and provides time frame

Gerry Cardinale had a meeting with Lombardy President Attilio Fontana yesterday to discuss AC Milan’s new stadium project. Earlier today, Fontana shared his thoughts on the project.

It was a busy day for Cardinale yesterday as he met with several parties involved in the stadium pursuit. In the morning, he met the Milan mayor Beppe Sala, the owners of the La Maura area and then finally Lombardy president Attilio Fontana.

Speaking to TV Play, as cited by SempreMilan.it, Fontana shared his thoughts on the project that Cardinale outlined. Among other things, he revealed that the Milan owner wants the construction to start in 2-3 years.

“I must say that the meeting with Cardinale was positive. The idea is good, we will see how it will be presented design-wise. I think we need to meet again and go into more detail. I can say that a large part of the large La Maura park will remain a large park. But to date, I can’t say if the stadium will be built in La Maura or not.

“After talking to the Milan owner, I think he wants to start construction in 2-3 years. He clarified that he wants to support the city of Milan, but he also wants to carry on with the stadium project. I don’t think he will leave the club in case an agreement can’t be reached on the stadium. I’ve never spoken to Inter. I read that they want to build the stadium outside the city of Milan, I don’t know anything else,” he stated.

It remains to be seen how the saga will end, but it’s clear that Cardinale has accelerated the matter. Getting high-ranking politicians on his side is a very good idea, seeing as a general program might be needed to overcome some of the constraints.
