Giroud maintains trend of scoring big goals but Maldini knows he needs help

When the big occasions come around, it seems that AC Milan can always rely on Olivier Giroud to score important goals and drag the team toward their targets.

Tuttosport (via MilanNews) recall how he scored crucial goals in the Scudetto-winning season, such as the double in the derby, the winner away against Napoli, the equaliser against Lazio before Sandro Tonali’s last-second heroics and a brace on the last day against Sassuolo.

He netted in the Champions League quarter-final second leg against Napoli this season and again on Sunday when he won the match against Juventus, a victory that allowed Milan to qualify for the next Champions League.

Despite being 36 years of age, Giroud continues to be decisive and to make a difference. He is Milan’s top scorer across all competitions and no player his age has scored at least 10 goals this year in the top five European leagues.

The weight of the attack has often been on his shoulders given Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s injury and the very disappointing performance of Divock Origi and Ante Rebic, but as a true leader he never backed down.

However, the management also know know very well that the Frenchman can’t do another season like this and for this reason they need to invest in a new centre-forward ahead of the 2023-24, who can learn from one of the best and take the baton.
