Giroud hopes second youth can convince Deschamps with trophies and records in sight

Olivier Giroud always seems to score big goals and that trend has extended into his time at AC Milan, but has another big objective in mind.

La Gazzetta dello Sport reports that Giroud is ready to do anything to not miss the chance to go to the World Cup with Qatar and set a new record for goals with the France, given he is three behind the current all-time leading scorer Thierry Henry.

He must first convince coach Didier Deschamps that he still deserves minutes given that Karim Benzema is in the form of his life, but Giroud will have a chance given the absence of the Real Madrid star tonight against Austria.

Giroud is experiencing ‘a second youth’ after getting his move to Milan and winning the Scudetto last season, scoring decisive goals along the way that have continued into this season (especially in the derbies), which means that the former Chelsea man feels as young as ever despite the fact he turns 36 in eight days.

He wants more goals and titles and that is why he is very much disposal of Deschamps, ready to become a decisive contributor given the World Cup in a couple of months.

Yesterday Deschamps spoke on the idea that Giroud has to win him over: “At least what he says doesn’t interest me. Between saying and doing there is always a path and in any case I do not say that it is impossible, but it is part of my reflection. Olivier doesn’t have to convince me, he knows how I think. The goal of him and the others is to give the best. There is a lot of competition and there will be choices to make.”
