CM: Benfica win the race for Enzo Fernandez

It has been officially confirmed that Enzo Fernandez will join Benfica from River Plate, meaning Milan have missed out.

As Calciomercato.com write, the basis of the deal is €10m plus €8m in bonuses for 75% of the player’s sporting rights. Although the statement from Benfica does not specify it, it is believed that part of the deal is that he will move to Portugal once the Copa Libertadores is over.

Fernandez was also linked with Wolverhampton Wanderers and Milan with both having reportedly held contacts with him, but instead he has chosen to continue his career in Lisbon.

Daniele Longo writes on Twitter that the Rossoneri were indeed keen on the player and chief scout Geoffrey Moncada spoke directly with him. However, he was always an alternative to Renato Sanches of Lille, so a negotiation with the River Plate had not yet been started. Moreover, the delay on the renewals of directors leads to this type of problem.
