Belgian coach says new Milan star Origi will ‘amaze’ fans

Belgian coach Vital Borkemans has said that Divock Origi will ‘amaze’ AC Milan fans when he plays for the club.

Borkemans was interviewed by Gianluca Di Marzio for his website and he spoke in glowing terms about the Belgian striker that will be part of Stefano Pioli’s side next season.

The forward has joined the Rossoneri after his contract with Liverpool expired. Borkemans was the assistant of former Belgium national team coach Marc Wilmots.

He said that Origi will amaze fans: “Lukaku is devastating, Origi will amaze you. They are strong physically and mentally, compatible and in some elements very similar.”

The Rossoneri hope that Origi will be a decisive player who comes up with vital goals when needed, much like he did during his time with Liverpool over the past few years. Borkemans certainly feels that he can do just that.

“He doesn’t feel pressure, he’s not afraid of anything. He’s ready to wear a prestigious shirt like Milan’s. Divock at Lille with Girard was an outside player.

“In attack he can play anywhere. I believe, however, that he is not only a first striker but that he can also be functional behind a centre-forward or wide left.

“In the last two years we haven’t seen the real Origi, because of injuries. But at AC Milan he can become decisive again.”

With Romelu Lukaku also being Belgian and returning to Inter this summer, a lot of comparisons are being made between the two strikers. Borkemans thinks they will both do well.

“Romelu is a centre forward in every way, Origi can go around him. They’ll do well in Serie A, you’ll see. Potentially they are both 20-goal strikers.

“I’m very happy for Romelu’s return and I can tell you that Origi at zero cost is a real bargain. In the derby it will be exciting to see them clash.”
