Inter defender Francesco Acerbi has revealed that he found it hard to settle into the club at first because of accusations he helped AC Milan win the Scudetto.
Specifically, the incident that he is referring to is the perceived error that he made right in the dying moments of Lazio’s 2-1 defeat against the Rossoneri back in April which really lit the fuse for Milan’s eventual charge towards the title.
The 34-year-old slipped while attempting to play the ball and that ultimately allowed midfielder Sandro Tonali to score and give Stefano Pioli’s men a huge three points, and he was also seen smiling after the incident which he has since claimed was more due to disbelief.
Interviewed by Corriere dello Sport (via SempreMilan.it), Acerbi spoke about his new adventure with the Nerazzurri and addressed the false first impressions.
“I confess that I thought about not coming. I also told Inzaghi. I didn’t like having the finger pointed at me, with the idea that I helped Milan win the Scudetto. I found it profoundly unfair that my seriousness and professionalism were questioned,” he said.
“I never expected it given the way I have worked in the last 10 years. I would be very happy if Inter bought me, but I would have no regrets otherwise.”
