Three Borussia youngsters book tickets to EURO finals

Borussia U19 players Filippo Mane and Danylo Krevsun booked their tickets to the European Championship finals via the EURO qualification tournaments. Thierry Fidjeu-Tazemeta from the U17s has also qualified for the finals tournament with Austria. The Germany U19 and U17 teams were eliminated prematurely, however. This is the overview of the BVB junior internationals.

Filippo Mane and Italy’s U19s celebrated a comfortable 5-0 win over Georgia in their final match of the tournament – following a decisive 2-1 victory over Czechia in the penultimate game, in which the BVB captain had set up the goal that made it 2-0 with his head. Borussia’s Danylo Krevsun led the Ukraine U19s to a 3-0 win against Switzerland and top spot in the group. Ukraine had previously beaten Latvia (3-0) and North Macedonia (2-0).

Austria’s U17s booked their tickets to the European Championship finals courtesy of a surprising 3-1 victory against Spain that saw them top their group. Borussia’s new signing Thierry Fidjeu-Tazemeta scored from a free-kick to restore parity at 1-1 and was substituted to a round of applause in the 72nd minute.

The 2-0 win against Türkiye at the end of the European Championship qualifying tournament was little consolation for Borussia’s Rafael Lubach and his team-mates: the DFB team missed out on a place at the EUROs. Coach Christian Wörns opted against playing Lubach in the final game.

The Germany U17s, who were last year’s European and world champions, also failed in the elite tournament. The team lost their decisive clash with Portugal by a 3-2 scoreline. BVB’s Tyler Meiser suffered a muscular injury in the opening match against Croatia (3-3) and is set to spend several weeks on the sidelines.

The Borussia U17s’ new signing Luca Reggiani suffered two bitter defeats at the hands of Germany with Italy’s U16s. The centre-back played the entirety of the first match (3-0 loss), while Reggiani was substituted in the 46th minute of the second fixture (5-0 defeat). DFB coach Marc Meister had decided not to field any BVB youngsters.

Cole Campbell with two goals for the USA

Goalkeeper Silas Ostrzinski was part of the Germany U20 national team squad that played out a thrilling 4-4 draw in their international match against France. Tom Rothe, who is on loan at Holstein Kiel from BVB, played the entire match.

The Germany U18s rounded off the Four Nation Tournament in Spain with a 4-1 defeat at the hands of the Czech Republic. The DFB team played with a man fewer from the 47th minute onwards after a red card. Paris Brunner came on the 80th minute. Almugera Kabar was an unused substitute.

Borussia U19 player Cole Campbell made a sensational debut as a USA U19 international. The forward netted a brace in the USA’s 3-2 victory over England.

Campbell and the other players who were called up will now return to BVB and begin their preparations for the season finale in the two Bundesligas after Easter. The U19s, league leaders in the A-Junior Bundesliga West, will host VfL Bochum on Sunday 7 April (11:00 CET). The U17s, who sit second in the B-Junior Bundesliga West, will pay a visit to 1. FC Köln on 6 April. (wiwi)
