BVB women’s handballers to travel to Thüringia for top match

On Easter Sunday, the Borussia Dortmund women’s handballers will play their final Bundesliga match prior to the next international window. The clash away to Thüringer HC will be a top match against one of their great rivals of recent years.

It is always an intense and hard-fought encounter when Borussia Dortmund go head-to-head with Thüringer HC. There will be a lot at stake in Sunday’s match too: BVB will be looking to cement second spot in the Women’s Handball Bundesliga table. THC, who are currently in fourth position with a game in hand, could leapfrog the Black & Yellows in front of their home support. The result in the reverse fixture was clear-cut.

“We did not play a good game at home to Thüringen,” said Tess Lieder, recalling that 33-25 defeat at the beginning of November. “Back then, we had a few players out injured and the team hadn’t found its feet as well as it has at the moment. I’m sure that we can put in a very good performance. But we know that it won’t happen by itself and that we have to get a lot of things right.”

The goalkeeper is extremely motivated and looking forward to the game. “I’m really up for the match at the weekend. But even though we’ve often won recently, our performance hasn’t always been good,” said Lieder, who is self-critical despite winning five Bundesliga games in a row. “That’s why we know everything really has to go right to win in Thuringia. We’ve prepared very well tactically.” Lieder hopes “we can pull it off. If we play a good game, we can make life difficult for THC.”

The match on Sunday will kick off at 18:30 CET. Eurosport will broadcast live on free-to-air TV.
