“We didn’t want to be invasive and so tried to respect his convalescence once we had been reassured.

“I can only say that 10 minutes ago Eriksen himself sent a message in our internal chat and this confirms the bond between the players.”

Marotta also claimed that Eriksen’s collapse was not due to Covid-19, but insisted that Inter would not be providing further medical information before Denmark’s medical team.

“He did not have Covid and was not vaccinated either,” Marotta added.

“At this moment, Eriksen is under the guidance of the Danish medical staff.

“There were a lot of tears before the game,” Lukaku said. “It was very difficult to focus for this match, also for Toby, Jan, Nacer. We all know him very well.

“I hope he gets well again; he has two young children, they need him and so do we as a team. I’m happy with the win but my thoughts are with Christian now.”

While he also told ITV: “I was scared. You live strong moments together. I spent more time with him than with my family.

“It was difficult to play the game. I hope he is healthy and I dedicate this performance to him.”
