MN: Relationship with players and optimism about Cardinale

Yesterday Paolo Maldini spoke at the Trento Sports Festival and he made some interesting comments about the responsibility he feels towards his players.

MilanNews recall how the former captain and current technical director of the Rossoneri talked about several issues from the Scudetto the team won last season to the ambitions in the Champions League, but his comments on his relationship with the players and with new owner Gerry Cardinale.

“A little bit with my players I feel this father-son relationship… There is a daily conversation, now I speak more and more individually than to the team group,” he said yesterday.

Maldini is generally always present at Milanello to watch the training sessions alongside his colleague and sporting director Ricky Massara, and they can often be seen in conversations with the players.

Maldini continued: “With the defenders it can happen that the discussions go on the pitch, especially on the one against one. The questions are varied: techniques, life, behaviour.”

He also spoke about his relationship with Massara too: “I did not know him […]. He is my age, a different path from mine and a different vision, it is fundamental. He shares the fundamental principles of life, and we are practically a de facto couple, we live in symbiosis.”

What should reassure Milan fans the most was what he said about his feelings on Gerry Cardinale and the American fund RedBird Capital who are the new owners of the club.

“The idea that is transmitted is a sort of continuity with respect to Elliott, they have taken this club that has been restored from an economic point of view and which should now be able to move back towards targets that are a little bit bigger,” he said.

If Maldini trusts the continuity of the project, then supporters can rest assured because he considers himself to be a ‘guarantor’ of what goes on at the club. The present is bright, and he believes that the future can be even brighter.
