It’s been a difficult 24 hours for Real Madrid, as they have missed out on signing Kylian Mbappe after coming incredibly close to signing the Paris-Saint Germain star.
Mbappe has been Real Madrid‘s main transfer target for a number of years, with everything being built with the 23-year-old’s arrival in mind.
In fact, after PSG refused to negotiate his exit last summer, Real Madrid turned their towards another Frenchman and secured a deal to sign Eduardo Camavinga in the last few days of the transfer window.
Throughout the summer of 2021, rumours about the possible interest of one or another player were stopped in their tracks in order not to jeopardise Mbappe‘s desire to play for Real Madrid.
They did not want any situations that would cause jealousy and, as such, they were looking for the ideal scenario in order to facilitate Mbappe‘s arrival.
From Mbappe and Haaland to nothing
Erling Haaland was in the spotlight as a potential signing for Real Madrid, but inside the club there was the view that he is not compatible with Mbappe. Now they have neither.
Real Madrid are left asking themselves if there is a possible alternative and, while the club and team are above any one player, this is definitely a blow for Los Blancos.
What they have made clear is that they are not going to spend big on a player who does not meet the expectations set by the club. They’re not going to go crazy looking for the first striker to come onto the market.
Carlo Ancelotti and the club’s leaders have pointed to the need to sign a centre-forward that can act as cover for Karim Benzema, who is still expected to have two seasons at the highest level.
Now we have to see the impact that Mbappe‘s decision to stay at PSG will have on the club, as there are not many strikers who can create the same level of excitement as Haaland and Mbappe.
The main objective is to reinforce the positions that may be most in question in the current squad.
While Dani Ceballos‘ future continues to be resolved, the primary objective will be to try and finalise the signing of Aurelien Tchouameni, a player who is highly wanted but was told a few days ago by Real Madrid that he had to wait at Monaco for a while longer. Now, the funds are available to bring forward his arrival.
