Derek Adams unveiled as new Bradford boss a day after departing Morecambe

Bradford City have confirmed the appointment of ex-Morecambe boss Derek Adams.

Adams led the Shrimps to a shock promotion out of League Two, sealing play-off final success over Newport County at Wembley last Monday.

But just 72 hours later Adams was gone, with Morecambe saying it was to “pursue an opportunity elsewhere”.

That opportunity has now been revealed as the chance to replicate promotion into League One with the Bantams. Adams has penned a three-year deal with Bradford, who are set to embark on a third successive year in the fourth tier.

He told City’s website: “Today is a great day for me.

“This a fantastic football club to come to and we have a big opportunity to try and earn promotion.

“Next season, my aim is to take us beyond this division and into Sky Bet League One. That is the pressure I put on myself, wherever I go, and I try to handle that pressure as well as I can.

“We have passionate supporters. The Bradford City fanbase is fantastic and was a big pull for me to come here.

“They want their manager to share the same passion, which is what I am here to do.”

Morecambe are now searching for Adams’ successor ahead of their first-ever campaign in the third tier of English football.

Their co-chairman Rod Taylor said: “The club is now solely focused on moving decisively to appoint the right manager to build upon the huge opportunity that promotion creates for both the football club and the town.

“That manager will be tasked with delivering the club’s ambitious vision and strategy, and conversations have started already.”

Keith Hill, who recently left Tranmere, is the bookies’ favourite to succeed Adams.
