Bennacer’s importance to Milan evident in numbers so far this season

Ismael Bennacer has raised his level even higher in the early part of the 2022-23 season and he is certainly one of the best midfielders in Serie A now.

MilanNews report how Bennacer has played in each of the first nine matches that Milan have played this season across Serie A and the Champions League, collecting a total of 665 minutes and netting one goal, namely the equaliser against Atalanta.

The Algerian is second in the whole of Serie A in terms of the number of key passes made in the first seven league games, while he is fourth in the ranking of who has recovered the most balls with 53 (or 7.5 per 90 on average).

In terms of ball progression, he is in 14th place in the best dribblers (10 completed, 4 behind the top spot) and he is 12th-best passer (fourth among the midfielders, with a success rate of 88.8%).

The report also mentions a comment from a UEFA technical observer at the end of the match against Dinamo Zagreb, when Bennacer was awarded MVP: “He always asked for the ball, pushing his team forward and showing real aggression to win back the ball very quickly.”
