Tottenham’s players are reportedly pushing boss Antonio Conte to play Joe Rodon after identifying him as the solution to their recent defensive struggles.

Spurs looked shaky at the back yet again as they fell to a 2-0 Premier League loss to Wolves on Sunday, where Conte deployed a three-man back line of Davinson Sanchez, Cristian Romero and Ben Davies.

But the club’s players are now said to be pushing their manager for a different defensive set-up to address their issues, after Conte was slammed for his side’s most recent performance.

It comes as former Spurs midfielder Christian Eriksen has recorded an assist in his first game for Brentford since making a comeback following his cardiac arrest at Euro 2020.

Here are Mirror Football’s latest Tottenham Hotspur headlines.

Eriksen back

Christian Eriksen’s road back to Premier League football took a huge step forward on Monday as the Danish midfielder set-up one of his side’s goals as Brentford beat Southend in a behind-closed-doors friendly.

The ex-Spurs midfielder collapsed during Denmark’s Euro 2020 tie with Finland last June and had to quit his career in Italy with Inter Milan as Serie A rules prevent players with implantable cardioverter defibrillators from playing in the league.

And following his January transfer window move to Brentford, Eriksen played for 60 minutes during Monday’s friendly encounter – capping off his performance by setting up Josh Dasilva to finish.

The intervention proved crucial as Brentford registered a 3-2 win.

Conte slammed

Antonio Conte has been slammed for his side’s failings during their 2-0 Premier League defeat to Wolves on Sunday.

Goals from Raul Jimenez and Leander Dendoncker within the opening 20 minutes at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium were enough to consign Conte’s side to their second defeat in a row after their 3-2 loss to Southampton on Wednesday.

And ex-player Jamie O’Hara has slammed Spurs’ inability to press their opponents in a strongly-worded critique of Conte’s managerial abilities.

Players identify defensive solution

Tottenham players see Joe Rodon as the club’s solution to their recent defensive woes.

Spurs have conceded five goals in their last two Premier League matches, which have ended in defeats to Wolves and Southampton.

Boss Antonio Conte has deployed the same three-man defence in both matches, but the club’s players are said to have developed a difference of opinion over their best defensive set-up.

And the Italian may be open to changing his preferred starting XI as he even suggested after the Wolves defeat that he may have made a ‘mistake’.
