Manchester United

Man Utd’s core of six players for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to build around next season

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has a very exciting squad of young and more experienced talent he has carefully assembled in the last two years or so.

With Bruno Fernandes as the poster boy, and the likes of Harry Maguire and Marcus Rashford helping to run the show, Manchester United are one of the most exciting teams around right now.

So with a highly likely place in the Champions League and a run at the Premier League title awaiting them next season, who can Solskjaer look to build his team around next season?

Here are the six players the Norwegian can turn to and work his side around to build for success next year.

Luke Shaw

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer can rely upon Luke Shaw to put a shift in at left-back every week

Arguably the best left-back in the world right now, Shaw must be one of the first names on the team sheet at the minute.

With many thinking he’d be playing second string to Alex Telles this term, the Brazilian must be considering his options after a season of bench warming.

If he has a good Euros this summer, Shaw will be raring to go more than ever next season – and that is a seriously exciting prospect.

Harry Maguire

Harry Maguire has looked shaky at times, but remains the main man at the back for United

The United captain looks like a rock when he’s at his best, but will he keep playing alongside the inconsistent Victor Lindelof next season or will United finally sign a world-class defender to go alongside him?

If Maguire gets a slighter, more mobile partner to allow him to focus on playing as a stopper, he should finally live up to that £75m price tag.

But if he is once again lining up with the current crop, the same old leaky issues are likely to arise.

Scott McTominay

Scott McTominay looks incredibly solid every time he plays

Almost every time McTominay plays, he looks like the best deep-lying midfielder at the club by some margin.

It doesn’t look like Solskjaer will sign another defensive-midfielder this summer, so the Scot will know that he should have place in the side when fit and raring to go.

Still only 24, McTominay is only going to get better, but he probably needs to be playing with better players than Fred and an ageing Nemanja Matic to take his career to the next level.

Bruno Fernandes

Bruno Fernandes’ influence at Old Trafford has been second to none

Let’s be honest, this could easily be an article about one core player, because that is how important Fernandes is to this United team.

24 goals this season and counting… but Fernandes’ influence on this team is about far more than hitting the back of the net.

The Portuguese is the life and soul of this team, and his value to Solskjaer cannot be measured, goodness knows what would happen if he picked up an injury.

Mason Greenwood

Mason Greenwood has a very bright future ahead of him

The future of United – Greenwood could be United’s main source of goals for years to come, if he can avoid getting himself into the slumps he all too often gets into.

Regularly described as the best technical player United have had in some time, his ability on either foot is clear to see, even if his goal contributions don’t show it.

Marcus Rashford

Marcus Rashford can be a real handful for defenders

It’s easy to forget, but Rashford is still only 23, and has 10 years left at the top of the game.

The England forward has come up with some valuable goals when needed, and can be a real handful when his head is in the right place.

A United boy through and through, Rashford isn’t going anywhere anytime soon, so Solskjaer can take solace in the knowledge that he can look to Rashford as a staple on the wing or even up front.
