Erik ten Hag’s desperation to sign Villarreal centre-back Pau Torres for Manchester United has been laid bare.

The incoming United boss is set to begin his rebuild at Old Trafford after watching the dismal final day Premier League defeat to Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park on Sunday. And the Dutchman has reportedly told his new club to bring Spanish defender Torres as a priority.

It comes as the Manchester United squad’s stance towards Harry Maguire has become clear – after senior players left the skipper out of a meeting with interim boss Ralf Rangnick in February. And the United duo involved in a training ground bust-up have both been named.

Here are Mirror Football’s latest Manchester United headlines.

Ten Hag’s desperation to sign Torres

Erik ten Hag wants Manchester United to bring in Villarreal defender Pau Torres ‘at all costs’ this summer, according to reports.

The Spaniard has reportedly been identified as Ten Hag’s perfect centre-back with the Dutchman keen to bring in someone comfortable playing out from the back. The defender has been a long-term target for United, although the club opted to bring in Raphael Varane last summer rather than firm up their interest in Torres with an offer.

United seem set to backtrack on that decision this summer, and Villarreal may now be willing to cash in on the defender if they receive an offer of around £42million.

Players make Maguire stance clear

A number of senior players within Manchester United’s squad have made their stance on captain Harry Maguire perfectly clear after leaving the defender out of a meeting with Ralf Rangnick.

Maguire’s captaincy has been repeatedly questioned over the course of the season following a downturn in form. There were calls for Cristiano Ronaldo to be handed the armband, although these were ultimately resisted.

With reports of an unsettled dressing room dogging United throughout the last year, Rangnick held a meeting with senior players to clear the air in February but club captain Maguire was left out. The conversation was claimed to have caused a rift in the dressing room, with one senior player’s behaviour ‘hijacking’ the meeting.

Bust-up duo named

The Manchester United players involved in a training ground bust-up have been named as Alex Telles and Hannibal.

The initial reports of a brawl between two players appeared earlier this month, following a humiliating 4-0 loss at Brighton. Tunisian international Hannibal and Brazilian left-back Telles have now been named as the persons involved.
