Real Madrid vs Granada | LaLiga: Zidane: Marcelo? He had an injury and we didn’t want to risk him, that’s all

Zinedine Zidane has revealed that Marcelo is the latest Real Madrid player to pick up a fitness problem going into the final weeks of the season.

With both the Brazilian and Ferland Mendy out, Miguel Gutierrez started against Granada and performed well in the 4-1 win.

“He had a [injury] problem and we didn’t want to risk him,” Zidane said on Marcelo, after reports that the Brazilian had had an argument with the coach.

“It’s nothing more than that.”

Marvin Park also started at full-back for Real Madrid and, like Gutierrez, provided an assist in the first half.

“[Miguel], Marvin and the whole team did very well,” Zidane said.

“We deserved to win.

Miguel played because neither Ferland nor Marcelo were there and he did phenomenally well.

“I’m happy for him. He’s a Real Madrid player.”

Marvin was on the end of a tough challenge from Darwin Machis in the first half and had to be substituted at half time.

“He’s got a bit of an injury,” Zidane said on the youngster.

“It’s something to do with his pelvis.”

The win takes Real Madrid to within two points of leaders Atletico Madrid in LaLiga Santander with two games to go.

“We’re going to give everything until the final minute,” Zidane said.
