Massimiliano Allegri returned to Juventus as head coach this summer, but the Italian very nearly could have turned up at Real Madrid.
In fact, during his presentation press conference with the Bianconeri, Allegri revealed that he held talks with Real Madrid president Florentino Perez about taking charge at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu.
“I have to thank Real Madrid and the president for the opportunity he gave me [to coach Real Madrid]. Then I thought about it and chose Juventus,” Allegri admitted.
“It was a gesture of love for a club that gave me a lot and who I enjoy coaching.”
Back in charge of Cristiano Ronaldo
After turning down Los Blancos Allegri decided to return to the club he left as head coach in 2019, and he will now be reunited with Portuguese forward Cristiano Ronaldo.
“Ronaldo is a great champion, [he is] an extraordinary player and very intelligent,” Allegri noted.
“I spoke to Cristiano, I told him that this year is important, that I’m happy to see him and that he has more responsibility than three years ago.
“He has more responsibility, besides scoring goals. I hope he has responsibility, he came back in great shape.”
