Real Madrid assert their authority at the top of the table

Real Madrid had to come from behind to beat Sevilla 2-1 on Sunday, with their credentials as league leaders on full display.

The win came at a good time for Los Blancos, as Real Sociedad lost away at Espanyol earlier in the day, which means that the Basque side now find themselves four points off Real Madrid after having played a game more.

The hard yards

As Barcelona and Atletico Madrid won their fixtures, there was even more pressure placed on Real Madrid as they faced Julen Lopetegui‘s side.

After Rafa Mir put the away side ahead in the 12th minute, Karim Benzema levelled in the first half before Vinicius Junior scored late in the second half to secure all three points for Real Madrid as they look to mount a title challenge.

The Bernabeu fortress

Real Madrid have not lost at home in the league this season, winning four games and drawing twice to Villarreal and Osasuna. Los Blancos have put in performances at home that have not always been the most glamorous, but get results all the same.

This latest win extends their unbeaten run to nine games, in which they have won eight and drawn one, with their last defeat coming back on October 3 away at Espanyol.
