An agreement has been reached between Xabi Alonso and Real Sociedad for the 39-year-old to stay on for another as coach of the Basque side’s B team.
He had received various offers and was strongly linked with Bundesliga side Borussia Monchengladbach, but has renewed with La Real until the summer of 2022.
Bild reported that the coach was set to join Borussia Monchengladbach this summer after the expiry of his current deal in San Sebastian, but Alonso has put pen to paper on a new deal.
Alonso‘s desire to be close to his family and to keep working on developing the young talents at Real Sociedad was already reported by MARCA and has been reflected in comments made after this contract renewal.
“I keep believing in this project and want to keep helping with the final push for those coming through Zubieta,” he said.
“We have more objectives and ambitions this season as we challenge ourselves.”
Real Sociedad‘s B team, called Sanse, have already secured their place in next season’s Segunda B Pro.
