Benzema misses training just two days before El Clasico

There is real concern for Real Madrid ahead of El Clasico, as Karim Benzema wasn’t able to train with the main group on Friday.

After suffering a knock to his lower right leg just before he scored against Liverpool on Wednesday, the French striker wasn’t able to work out with his teammates in the penultimate session before Sunday’s game at the Camp Nou.

While the main group carried out possession, control and tactical exercises on the pitches, before playing a mini game, Benzema stayed inside the facilities to do individual work.

Despite this, there is an expectation that he will try to make it for the game against Barcelona on Sunday, which is the capital city club’s last chance to keep the title race alive.

“It seems like it’s just a knock and we think he’ll be back for Sunday,” was how Carlo Ancelotti described the issue after the Liverpool game.

Real Madrid’s confirmed absences for El Clasico

There are two players who are already ruled out of El Clasico on Sunday, as David Alaba is still out injured while youth team striker Alvaro Rodriguez can’t play because of a suspension suffered with Castilla.

That means that, if Benzema can’t play, then Rodrygo would likely be the one to fill in at the No.9 position.
