Argentine Primera Division: Mono Burgos begins journey as a head coach in Argentina

Newell’s Old Boys announced on Sunday that their new first-team head coach will be German ‘Mono’ Burgos, who was until recently Diego Simeone‘s right-hand man at Atletico Madrid.

The Argentinian coach begins his journey as a head coach in his native land in what is his first role since leaving Atleti last summer.

Burgos has agreed a deal to join the Rosario-based club until December, with the option to extend it for another year if both parties agree.

The 51-year-old is expected to arrive in Rosario on Monday and to take his first training session on Tuesday afternoon at the Estadio Marcelo Bielsa ahead of his first match on Friday against Union Santa Fe.

Burgos replaces Frank Dario Kudelka, who left after a 4-0 defeat to Defensa y Justicia on Saturday in the fifth Matchday of the Copa de la Liga Profesional.

Newell’s will be hoping that Burgos will soon deliver their first win of the season, as they have just one point from their opening five games.
