Women’s football is poised to play a leading role in AK Coaches’ World, the international football congress organised by Aitor Karanka. The online event, which will be held over 27 and 28 May, will feature some of the biggest names in the sport, such as Iraia Iturregi, Jorge Vilda and Milagros Martnez.

Former professional footballer Iturregi currently occupies the hotseat at Spanish top-flight outfit Athletic Club. The Basque coach’s playing career saw her lift the Spanish top-tier title on four occasions (2002/03, 2003/04, 2004/05 and 2015/16), whilst she was a league runner-up three times and was twice a beaten Copa de la Reina finalist.

Meanwhile, Vilda is the head coach of the Spanish women’s senior national team after having previously coached the U-17 and U-19 national sides. He notably led the U-19 women’s team to glory at the 2018 European Championship.

As for Martnez, she became the first female coach to manage a men’s team in Japanese football when she took up the reins at Suzuka Unlimited FC in 2019. During her tenure, the Spaniard has guided the team to the Mie Prefecture Cup, part of the Emperor Cup. Before rewriting the history books in Japan, the former player spent time at Fundacin Albacete as assistant coach, head coach and academy director, whilst she also enjoyed a previous spell at Atltico Tomelloso.

The participation of these speakers reflects AK Coaches’ World’s support and interest in women’s football and seeks to enhance the visibility and recognition of those who work in the female game and are actively contributing towards the professionalisation of the sector.

The congress will feature a star-studded line-up of guests from across world football, including Ronaldo Nazrio, Monchi, Julen Lopetegui and Jordi Cruyff. The event is run in conjunction with the Spanish Football Federation, which will issue attendees with a certificate. The registration period is now open at
