Marc Overmans was forced to leave his position as Ajax‘s director of football last week and his exit was a major talking point in the world of football. Edwin Van der Sar, however, hasn’t spoken about it.
The former goalkeeper is the current general director at Ajax, but has kept quiet in the past week.
According to ESPN’s Jan Joost van Gangelen, Van der Sar hasn’t commented on Overmars because his position at the Dutch club is at the same rank as the role Overmars had, while it is also the same level as commercial director Menno Geelen. As such, these directors are advised not to discuss each other because neither of them is a superior to the other.
The ESPN journalist has claimed, though, that Van der Sar is very upset and frustrated by what has happened with Overmars, although he isn’t yet ready to appear in front of the cameras.
Meanwhile, De Telegraaf have questioned Van der Sar too as they have asked just how much the director knew about Overmars‘ behaviour before it became public.
